Technical Specialist - Catalyst ALD
TECHNICAL SPECIALIST – CATALYST ALD
Our culture believes in POWERING YOUR POTENTIAL . We provide global opportunities to develop your career, make your community a better place and work with today’s most innovative thinkers to solve the world’s toughest problems.
We believe in flexibility for you to explore your passions while making an impact through meaningful work within our inclusive workforce. That’s what #LifeAtCummins is all about.
We are looking for a talented Technical Specialist Catalyst to join our team specializing in Engineering for our Corporate CBS in Columbus, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Chemical or Electrochemical Performance Testing - Designs tests measuring chemical transformation of species, selectivity, electric yield, response to chemical and physical environments in order to determine performance, durability, or state of health of chemically or electrochemically active components; examines and interprets test data using analysis methods to draw conclusions that influence hardware and controls design decisions and to provide information for computational tools development.
Characterization of Chemical Systems - Designs and conducts tests of physicochemical properties, for example morphology, acid-base and redox properties, diffusion characteristics, impedance behaviors, solubility, and chemical poisoning, in order to aid in diagnostics and prediction of performance and health of chemically active components.
Accelerated Aging Testing and Analysis - Designs and constructs laboratory equipment to simulate various aging exposures relevant to practical applications of active chemical components, including thermal cycling, chemical poisoning, and physical masking.
Simulation of Chemical Systems - Determines chemical or electrochemical performance of chemically active components and systems via numerical modeling; estimates conversion, selectivity, electrical yield, resistance, and state of health via numerical computations to evaluate and guide hardware and controls design decisions.
System Capability Engineering - Identifies system capability and risks through analysis or experimental testing of the system, sub-system, or super system in the context of its environment; negotiates and verifies requirements against capability to guide project scope and system development accordingly; assesses legacy system versus proposed new system solution capabilities and makes decisions as to how best to achieve system capability with consideration of stakeholder trade-offs.
Product Problem Solving - Solves product problems using a process that protects the customer; determines the assignable cause; implements robust, data-based solutions; and identifies the systemic root causes and recommended actions to prevent problem reoccurrence.
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
Proven experience base with aftertreatment system operation, integration, and simulation. Strong project management skills are also desirable.
Required supporting natural gas and stoichiometric three-way catalysts. Must be able to work with project teams, resolve challenging in-use issues, utilize our analysis tools to support design of controls and OBD, and support projects aimed at cost reduction and new technology introduction. With the use and development of simulation tools, close interaction with our reactor team to develop and analyze tests, and close interaction with engine teams to develop and analyze tests.
This role will also require managing field tests of catalyst components. This requires project management with an understanding of the catalyst functions in order to identify and schedule the critical tasks. Cross-functional interfacing with the aftertreatment functional team for drawings and part procurement, the field test team for identifying vehicles and the customer interface, engine controls and performance teams to develop and release calibrations, test teams to evaluate the calibration performance, and the catalyst teams.
Strong skills in aftertreatment integration, controls, testing, calibration tuning, and data analysis. An understanding of aftertreatment component fundamentals, and the trade-offs in performance would be important. Engine or vehicle system integration experience is desirable.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary rate commensurate with experience. Additional benefits vary between locations and include options such as our 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan, Cash Balance Pension Plan, Medical/Dental/Life Insurance, Health Savings Account, Domestic Partners Coverage and a full complement of personal and professional benefits.
