Thermal Fluids CFD Senior Engineer (Hybrid)


We are looking for a talented Simulation Based Customer Integration Thermal/Fluids-Senior Engineer to join our team specializing in Cummins Core Technologies Business Unit in Columbus, IN (Hybrid).

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Serve as technical liaison between OEMs and represent Cummins customers during new product development programs.

  • Obtain input and negotiate with Subject Matter Experts and Value Package Introduction (VPI) Teams and deliver product data and installation requirements to Application Engineers and OEMs.

  • Apply processes, such as Installation Quality Assurance, OEM integration and product selection and tools such as Advisor, Cummins On-Line Specifications (COLS) and Global Customer Engineering (GCE) required to support the processes and enable high quality decision making.

  • Develop strong working relationships with customer technical counterparts to serve as their primary liaison to deliver specialized product technical information, manage product specifications, communicate product change information, conduct complex installation issue resolutions, and facilitate customer requests.

  • Lead the translation of customer needs and "voice of the customer" into functional product requirements to provide input on program-related decisions

  • Serve as customer/market advocate inside Cummins during participation in new product development programs, design reviews and product change request processes.

  • Support development & deployment of Thermal-Fluids simulation, process, tools and methods related to customer integration domain.

  • Work with existing and new software vendors to ensure customer requirements are being met.

  • Support management reviews & customer meetings as needed.


To be successful in this role you will need the following:

  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelor's degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required. Advanced degree in Engineering is preferred.

  • Prior work experience in a relevant discipline area with a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving and quality decision making is preferred

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in thermal/fluids simulation with 3D CFD software like Ansys, Star CCM and Simerics is required.

  • Experience of CAD preprocessing and post processing tools is required.

  • Solid understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics required.

  • Experience with customer facing jobs is preferred.

  • Preferred experience in 1D system simulation tool like AMEsim and GT Suite.

  • Experience with new power like fuel cells (PEM and solid oxide) and battery is preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
