Apprenticeship – Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship

Outline of apprentice role:

As an Electrical maintenance apprentice, you will work within our maintenance team, maintaining systems and electrical equipment in an industrial environment. As part of your role as an electrical maintenance apprentice, you will be responsible for ensuring machine tools are available and capable by means of:

  • Working to company safety standards.

  • Breakdown repair.

  • Fault finding.

  • Planned maintenance.

  • Breakdown investigation.

  • Predictive maintenance.

Apprenticeship – Engineering Technician

Outline of apprentice role:

As a Technician in our Laboratory Operations function, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Carrying out standard and non-standard turbocharger tests.

  • Working closely with engineers to determine best options/testing approach.

  • Setting up turbochargers in test cells and on engines to perform turbocharger functional tests.

  • Setting-up on test engines.

  • Writing complex test programmes.

  • Producing test data and assessing for quality prior to handing over to engineering.

  • Building prototype turbochargers.

  • Machining non-standard prototype parts.

  • Carrying out detailed disassembly and inspection of tested components.

  • Carrying out routine test cell and engine bed maintenance.

Apprenticeship – Materials Laboratory Technician

Outline of apprentice role:

As a Technician in our Materials Engineering Laboratory areas, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Operating analytical instruments and equipment and performing physical analysis in support of production and non-production engineering, quality and manufacturing groups.

  • Preparing samples and specimens for testing using standard laboratory techniques, procedures or work instructions.

  • Acquiring and interpreting data and documenting results; providing written results in a laboratory or technical report format when appropriate.

  • Developing and documenting laboratory methods.

  • Performing routine calibrations, maintenance, troubleshooting and minor repair of instruments and equipment.

  • Interfacing with customers, suppliers, engineers and other functions.

  • Participating in the maintenance of quality procedures and work instructions.

  • Coordinating analysis programs including planning, scheduling, ordering and tracking.

  • Participating in improvement projects.

  • Participating in self and team audits and associated corrective action resolution.

Apprenticeship – Technical Support Technician

Outline of apprentice role:

Technical Support Technicians work as part of a team to provide technical support and expertise to all areas of the engineering and manufacturing function. As a Technical Support Technician in our Quality function you will be responsible for the following:

  • Conducting investigations into operations’ quality problems.

  • Turbo strip down and fault-finding investigations.

  • Completion of daily quality checks.

  • Coordinating measuring machine and programmable gauge programming & operation.

  • Full measurement inspection of turbocharger.

  • Raising material nonconformance documents.

  • Product and process auditing.

  • Providing the first line of support for operational issues and failure investigations.

  • Initiation of containment activity.

  • IT systems including use of Oracle, CQMS and Matrix.

  • Tensile testing and analysis of pass / failure criteria.

  • Cleanliness testing including the particle count equipment.

  • Wash solution strength checks.

Apprenticeship – Engineering Design & Draughtsperson

Outline of apprentice role:

As an Engineering Design & Draughtsperson Apprentice within the Test Technology department you will be responsible for the following:

  • Design and procurement of test cell fixtures, adapters and related equipment.

  • Defining requirements to feed into test equipment designs.

  • Creating manufacturing drawings.

  • Procuring parts and assemblies through recognised suppliers.

  • Creating test equipment schematics and maintenance documentation.

  • Creation of procedures relating to new equipment.

  • Project planning in alignment with test requirements.

  • Regularly communicating with internal and external stakeholders.

  • Ensuring safe systems of work and ownership of safety improvement projects.

Overview of course:

You will study full time at Appris in your first year learning a broad range of engineering knowledge and skills including:

  • Producing components using hand fitting techniques.

  • Maintaining mechanical devices and equipment.

  • Assembling and testing fluid power systems.

  • Producing mechanical assemblies.

  • Preparing and using lathes for turning operations.

  • Preparing and using milling machines.

After your first year you will come on site for the duration of your apprenticeship to learn your role within the company and will study one day per week at Appris.

Included in the 4 year apprenticeship is a 2 year Level 4 HNC qualification.

Qualifications

Entry Requirements:

We are looking for self motivated people who are a good fit with our business. We want to see and hear that you are genuinely enthusiastic about developing a career in your chosen field, you work well in a team and can plan & organise your time effectively. In addition you will also possess:

5 GCSEs Grade A\

    • C (level 5-9): Including English language and a Science/Technology subject

Mathematics: GCSE Grade B or above (Level 6-9 equivalent).
