CRP - Machining Production Associate – Trainer - Cummins ReCon Plant


We are looking for a talented Machining Production Associate – Trainer to join our team at our Ladson, SC manufacturing plant.

Operates machines and production equipment independently in accordance with quality and productivity requirements safely in a manufacturing environment and may instruct or coach others.

Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)

  • Stop work and immediately report any major injury hazards.

  • Follows all applicable standard work, process documentation and quality procedures such as Statistical Process Control (SPC), poka-yoke and visual standards.

  • Raises issues to minimize cost and quality exposures.

  • Performs quality inspections.

  • Identifies and controls non-conforming material.


  • Fully proficient with all work processes, independently operating equipment to manufacture and assemble product in order to create the proper characteristics and dimensions necessary to meet customer expectations.

  • Instructs and coaches others and acts as an informal resource for team members with less capability.

  • Achieves production goals.

  • Works at the required cycle time or defined engineering standard.

  • Maintains clean and orderly work area, including routine housekeeping tasks and machine cleaning tasks and performs planned operator care and maintenance tasks.

  • Remains flexible and performs other miscellaneous duties, as required, to meet production goals.

  • Works with peers, skilled trades and support staff to maintain and identify equipment needing repair.


  • Communicates effectively with the assigned team and with all support teams.

  • Completes training and personal development in line with business requirements.

  • Participates actively in ways to improve quality, safety, process, material flow, and employee development.


Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.


  • Requires significant relevant work experience or specialized skills obtained through education, training or on-the-job experience.

  • Participate in A3s and other continuous improvement activities as required.

  • Maintain awareness of standard work changes, any other manufacturing changes

  • Maintains acceptable levels of training on all processes as required.

  • May be required to travel in the short term to gain process knowledge.

  • May be required to work 2nd or 3rd shifts as required.

The ideal candidate will have the following knowledge and experience:

1.) At least 12 months of relevant work experience

2.) Have previous CNC Operator experience

3.) Have previous experience training associates

4.) Have completed or willing to complete formal Instructor training (ie Train the Trainor courses or similar)

5.) Have completed or willing to complete Cummins Quality Training Program, and other courses as defined by Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Safety, or Operations

6.) Champions safety, quality, and delivery excellence in work. May have experience as a Safety Champion, Quality Champion, or similar role.

7.) Basic math skills with a good understanding of measurements and fractions.

Essential Job Functional Requirements

  • Ability to lift and inspect 32lb Turbine housing at a rate of 22 units/hour.

  • Inspection includes top, bottom, flange and all rounded edges

  • Ability to lift from thigh height 32lb turbine housings and place on wheel blaster tree (9spaces) at the following Heights: 21”, 34” and 46”.

  • Ability to lift and carry a 32lb turbine housing from rolling conveyer at 40” and place on gauging table at 43”, 7 feet away.

  • Ability to lift 32lb and load Turbine housings from a height of 38” into a lathe at approximately the same height

  • Ability to handle small rivets and place in machine fixture to assemble nozzle rings. 4x per Ring.

  • Must be able to reach the ground and have enough hand/finger dexterity to pick up small dropped parts

  • Must have enough visual acuity to read small gauges and measurements
