U.S. Foreign Trade Zone Associate


Under direct or close supervision, enter data into a database or other computerized system to maintain up-to-date stock/inventory and training records; retrieve stored information to respond to enquiries (for example on inventory levels or delivery schedules.) Perform other routine administrative activities according to the organization's established procedures. These activities may include responding to customer escalations, order allocation, part profile & inventory records; preparing reports, training operators, customs compliance processes, domestic and international transportation related procedures and completing forms (receipt, transfer, delivery, dispatch, etc.)

Warehouse Inventory Control - Manages physical inventory utilizing inventory control methodologies to maintain inventory and meet customer expectations.

Warehouse Operations - Utilizes warehousing tools, systems, and methodologies to meet defined metrics for inbound and outbound operations of a warehouse.

Trade Knowledge Application - Applies knowledge of relevant trade regulations to Cummins processes and systems to minimize trade risks and costs.

Mode Selection - Evaluates and selects appropriate transportation mode and equipment type by lane through shipment volume analysis against business requirements to provide optimal shipping method (balance cost, quality and time).

Education, Licenses, Certifications

High school diploma or certificate of completion of secondary education or equivalent experience to the extent such experience meets applicable regulations.


Minimal or no work experience required.

Providesupport in ensuring the foreign trade zone operation at the MemphisDistribution Center is handled according to the guidelines set forth byrelevant government entities.Thisincludes ensuring the operation and transactions are compliant, timely, andhandled in a professional manner.


Validation of information received, including: enuring commercial shippingdocuments match FTZ submittal data; analyzing shipping documents and arrivalnotification to ensure the data elements are in alignment; making systemchanges when there are discrepancies.

Ensuring compliant inventory transactions, including:performing systemanalysis to ensure the bill of ladings and shipment identifiers are inalignment; verifying/confirming the bill of lading information for eachshipment prior to submission to relevant government entity.

Termination of Importation Bonds with US Customs, including: monitoringand tracking of inbond freight to the MDC; ensuring the proper bonddocumentation was created and filed correctly by broker/freight forwarder/steamship line; ensuring the freight is received at the MDC; ensuring the cartoncount received at the MDC matches that of the inbond document; and closinginbond with US Customs.

Creation of In-Transit Bonds with US Customs, including: shipments leavingthe MDC must be delineated between domestic and international; for identifiedinternational shipments, an inbond document must be created and submitted to USCustoms; verification is needed to ensure the carton count on the shippingdocuments match that of the inbond document; once confirmed with US Customs theinbond document must be tracked and logged with the shipping department priorto the departure of the freight.

Inventory Management, including: validation checks to ensure the inventoryshown between our FTZ software, the data layer, and MDC GOMS match; running ofreports and the identification of discrepancies; as discrepancies are found,transaction validations are performed to identify the reason for thediscrecpanies.

Preperation of Consumption Entry with US Customs, including: preparationof the required data elements that are needed for our US Customs Broker to fileentry for freight sold domestically; validation of the elements on the shippingdocuments to that of the data elements extracted for the electronic transmittalto our Customs Broker; record-keeping aspect of ensuring the accepted entry byUS Customs is available for future verification.

Data Validation, including: validation analysis to ensure the correct HTScode is assigned to incoming freight to include assisting in the assignment ofan HTS code if one is not found internal; researching product information toidentify product country of origin and weight if information is not readilyavailable in our systems; as needed, pulling of parts out of the warehouse toconfirm the embedded country of origin on a product and weighing of product toconfirm weights.

Prepare and transmit withdrawl entries, including: for freight exiting theMDC, a system transmittal is processed that will remove the goods frominventory and confirm their classification; validation is needed between dataelements found on the commercial shipping documents and that of the withdrawl.
