Marine Field Service Technician

Description

We are looking for a talented Marine Field service technician to join our team in Paducah, Kentucky.

In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Completes preventative maintenance and/or basic repair activities on engines and related components at the customer site with minimal direction.

  • Engages with customer in a courteous and professional manner. Ensures prompt and efficient attention to customer needs.

  • Applies the use of specialized tools and follows documented procedures and policies to diagnose and complete basic repairs, including preparing required parts and tools.

  • Escalates unresolved issues to more experienced Field Service Technicians and/or Supervisor.

  • Performs preventative maintenance activities as per documented schedules and standards on engines and related components in the field.

  • Completes required documentation, such as service worksheets, timesheets and warranty claims via handwritten forms or business system input screens.

  • Completes training in line with skill and business requirements Maintains service vehicle and tools for cleanliness and proper operation.

  • Ensure adherence to all relevant Health, Safety & Environmental policies, procedures and legislations.

  • Technical Escalation - Obtains product technical issue information and utilizes available resources including data management tools; elevates issues to a higher level of expertise, balancing timeliness of customer response with investigation efforts; captures all troubleshooting steps in the appropriate database in order to ensure seamless transitions and accurate response to ticket resolution in a timely manner.

  • Diagnostics Application - Translates customer complaints to develop troubleshooting plan; troubleshoots issue following guided work flows, procedures, specialized equipment such as mechanical and electronic service tools, and diagnoses computer software to isolate failed components to enable a successful repair; validates repair by duplicating complaint to ensure it has been resolved; documents results of troubleshooting in business systems to communicate what has been done for payment and historical tracking.

  • Electronic Service Tool Application - Identifies the suite of available hardware and software tools required for a service event; utilizes the appropriate electronic tool set to maintain the product or diagnose and troubleshoot an issue; interprets electronic tool results or recommendations to determine next steps for service resolution.

  • Product Repair and Maintenance - Repairs and maintains mechanical/electrical products following guidelines, using required tools within standard repair time to ensure a quality repair; disassembles and assembles engines or power generators following guidelines, using required tools to ensure a clean and organized environment; inspects and replaces parts and components following re-use guidelines to minimize customers cost of ownership; performs progressive damage check following guidelines to restore to pre-failure condition.

  • Electrical Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards on working with low and/or high voltage by complying with all safe work procedures including Personal Protective Equipment to create a safe work environment; applies basic electrical theories and electronics components knowledge using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently.

  • Mechanical Knowledge - Demonstrates knowledge of Cummins and industry standards by complying with all safe work procedures including Personal Protective Equipment to create a safe work environment; applies mechanical principles and theories using appropriate tools and procedures to diagnose and repair products safely and efficiently.

  • Health and Safety Fundamentals - Champions and models proactive health and safety behaviors by identifying, reporting and participating in actions to improve health and safety in order to build an interdependent culture and contribute to an injury-free workplace.

Education, Licenses, Certifications

  • Apprentice Trained Engine Technician (Preferred).

  • Vocational diploma from relevant technical institution.

  • Locally valid driving permit.

  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.

Experience

  • Intermediate level knowledge of and/or experience with marine engine products.

  • Intermediate level knowledge of Power generation products (mid-range generators)

  • High Horse Power experience

5000$ sign on bonus

Monday to Friday 7am to 5pm

The level for this position will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and skill set. Qualifications for different technician levels:

o Technician Level I: Limited relevant technician experience; qualified to perform work on a minimal number of products in-scope for technician at this location; primarily engaged in maintenance or basic repairs/diagnostics; requires direct supervision and review of workmanship quality.

o Technician Level II: Some relevant technician experience; qualified to perform work on an intermediate number of products in-scope for technician at this location; primarily engaged in moderately complex maintenance and repair; some exposure to moderate or complex diagnostics, requires limited direct supervision, may provide basic training or guidance to new technicians.

o Technician Level III: Significant relevant technician experience; qualified to perform work on most or all of products in-scope for technician at this location; frequently engaged in complex diagnosis and repair; requires minimal to no supervision; ability to effectively train and guide less experienced technicians of varying skillsets.

This position will require a complete DMV driving report but no Driver Qualification file.

  • A current valid license is required for this role

  • Must be 18 years old with 2 years driving experience

  • This role requires a 5 year motor vehicle report, free from major violations

Compensation and Benefits Base salary rate commensurate with experience.
