Environmental compliance specialist – Roermond, Netherlands

In this position, you will be responsible for all activities related to environmental compliance and ensure specialized knowledge of environmental regulations and standards are met on-site.

About the role:

Being part of the plant Health, Safety, and Environment team, you will be applying specialized knowledge of engineering and project management principles and practices across various areas and projects by interpreting, communicating, and ensuring all environmental regulations and standards. You will also be:

  • Apply technical expertise to complex components or projects and work under minimal supervision for regulatory compliance and other applicable programs.

  • Works with subject matter experts from related groups to promote efforts to improve environmental performance or compliance processes and identify opportunities to establish common processes and tools.

  • Works in close cooperation with various government agencies and ensures that all environmental permits for Cummins Roermond are up to date;

  • Analyzes and communicates information to many internal stakeholders regarding environmental compliance.

  • Participate as a key person and be responsible for cross-functional project success with various stakeholders; communicate with and influence key external stakeholders and business leaders, escalating compliance issues as necessary.

  • Identifies, sets up, and/or facilitates meetings and training on compliance; supports the definition and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Helps transfer knowledge, coaches, and mentors less experienced compliance personnel.

  • Lead small projects or portions of large projects.

  • Participate as a key person and is responsible for cross-functional project success with various stakeholders.

  • Escalate and drive the resolution of compliance questions and issues; provide technical direction to a project or project team.

Qualifications

About you:

You will ideally have Environmental compliance and regulations experience within an automotive or heavy machinery environment, however, if you enjoy and can evidence a high level of attention to detail, resiliency, and strong communication skills along with an interest in HSE or Environment domains and already have relevant technical experience in industrial / manufacturing companies, we’d love to hear from you. Here are some of the other skills and competencies we’d like you to have:

  • BA degree in Health&Saftety, Environmental science, Safety administration, Sustainability, Environmental Engineering or relevant technical field of study;

  • MA and (or) MBA degree in the technical discipline or social discipline is a plus;

  • Moderate professional experience in a similar role within a manufacturing setting;

  • Understanding of environmental regulations, industry standards, and best practices including ISO14001

  • Extended Knowledge of Arbo, Environmental regulations, and Occupational Hygiene (ergonomics, welding fumes, noise, screen work, etc.)

  • High level of understanding of environmental reporting requirements and practical experience in this area;

  • Experience in leading conversations with the government/regulators

  • Ability to build strong and collaborative working with cross-functional teams, influencing stakeholders at different levels;

  • Problem-solving mentality, personal curiosity, self-discipline, and stress resistance.

  • Fluency in Dutch and English, as these are our main business languages on-site; knowledge of any other languages is a benefit (German languages are preferable);
